A medical
entrepreneur needed to develop a prototype for a medical data collection
system that would use a 2-way pager protocol to transmit data from a patient's
home to the physician's office.
PacInfo’s task was to design the data acquisition and processor support
electronics, integrate them with a wireless messaging system, and support a patent
application for the system.
A commercial bathroom scale was successfully interfaced to the pager system using
a PC and specially developed interface hardware. The bathroom scale was reverse-engineered
to determine the characteristics of its display so that the interface could be
designed.
We utilized a Motorola Create-a-Link pager system with a software layer that had to be ported from its native Windows environment to the MS-DOS environment for access to the hardware ports and for real-time program execution.
